Renée
A reimagined bookshelf that gives old clothing a new life
Challenge
Clothing and textile waste are a huge problem in America. The fast fashion industry is growing bigger and bigger, and clothing is increasingly seen as a consumable and disposable good. In fact, the average American throws away about 81 pounds of clothing every year.
Many fashion lovers, however, are knowledgeable about the harmful effects of fast fashion, and want to make a change. How might I help fashion lovers reduce the amount of clothing waste they create?

Outcome
Renée is a new kind of furniture and conversation piece that transforms old clothing into storage for books, magazines, and other belongings. These clothes are diverted from the landfill and gain a new purpose. By using the fashion lover's own clothes, Renée is completely customized and directly reflects her personal aesthetic and lifestyle.
